3 Easy Methods to Unlock Huawei USB Internet Modems (Glo, MTN, Airtel, Etisalat)

When looking for a way to browse the Internet on your laptop or desktop at home, the Huawei 3G Modem comes in handy. But unfortunately, these modems are locked to one particular network because each GSM network providers in Nigeria has their own customized Internet modems. Therefore, for some reasons or the other, you might want to unlock your locked modem. Unlocking your modem does no harm but enables you to be able to use any network SIM on one particular modem.
For example, if you have a MTN Fastlink modem, you can not use it with a glo SIM because it is locked. But if you unlock the MTN Fastlink, you will be able to use it, not only with a MTN SIM, but also with any other network SIM. So I will be sharing with you 3 simple methods you can employ to unlock your huawei modem free of charge.

3 Methods to Generate Unlock Code for Your Locked Modem

USING ONLINE TOOL
This method requires you to generate the unlock code using a free online tool. Follow the steps below to get the code:
- Click here to visit the free online unlock code generator website
- Check through the list of supported modem models
- If you find your type of model, enter your modem IMEI number into the provided box and enter the captcha code
- Click Calculator.
And within seconds, your unlock code will be calculated and generated for you.

USING OFFLINE METHOD
This involve the use of unlocking software to generate the unlock code. With this, you do not need to connect to the Internet.

1. Huawei Unlocker Software
Huawei Unlocker is a free tool that can be used to unlock any huawei USB modem.
- Click here to download Huawei Unlocker
- After downloading, launch it
- Enter your modem IMEI number (the IMEI number can be found at the back of your modem)
- Click Unlock and copy out the Unlock Code to a safe place.

2. Universal MasterCode Software
Universal MasterCode is also a free PC tool which is used to unlock huawei modems.

- Launch the program
- Enter your modem IMEI number (the IMEI number can be found at the back of your modem)
- Click Calculate and your code will get generated in a twinkle of an eye.
Note 1: The Universal MasterCode software can also be use to generate unlock and master codes for ZTE modems, NEC, LGkg110, VK and Nokia phones.
Note 2: While generating your unlock code, you will also be given a Flash Code. This is useful in case you enter incorrectly the Unlock Code 10 times. Then use the Flash Code to unlock it. Your Flash Code is just like the ‘PUK Code’ of your SIM Card.

HOW TO UNLOCK YOUR HUAWEI 3G USB INTERNET MODEM
Now that we have just generated our unlock code, let us go ahead to unlock our modem to other available networks. Follow the steps below to unlock your modem:
1. Insert an un-authorized (another network) SIM Card into the modem
2. Plug in the modem into a USB port of your PC and open the Modem Dashboard
3. Then a small window will pop-up requesting you to enter an ‘Unlock Code’
4. Enter the unlock code you have just generated
5. Click OK and the pop-up window will vanished
6. Your modem has just been unlocked and you should see the name of the network and the service bar of the SIM you have inside the modem.

HOW TO CONNECT YOUR UNLOCKED MODEM TO THE INTERNET WITH OTHER NETWORKS
Since your modem has been unlocked, it can now work with any GSM SIM card you insert into it, but you will have to manually set up each network’s Internet settings first before it can connect to the Internet.
1. Plug in your unlocked modem and open the Dashboard
2. Click ‘Tools’ tab
3. Select ‘Options’
4. Then click ‘Profile Management’
5. Click ‘New’ and enter the internet settings for the SIM network you have inside the modem
6. Then click ‘Save’
7. Go back to the ‘Connection page’, choose the ‘Network’ you want and click ‘Connect’.
That is all. You will then be connected.

How to Make Your PC a WLAN Hotspot Using Connectify

There are various devices you can use to connect your PC to other computers or devices and browse the internet at the same time but not every one can afford these devices. So today, I will be sharing with you a free tool you can use to turn your PC to a Wi-Fi Hotspot so you can connect your PC to other wireless devices such as your music players, iPad, smart phones, PSP, or other devices or computers with a wireless spot, so they can access the Internet too, free. To do this, we are going to need this free software called  

Connectify.

With Connectify, you can make your PC a Wi-Fi hotspot and share your internet connection with other wireless devices around you, maybe at home, class room or at office. This means, if you have a laptop with a wireless function and a modem to connect it to the internet, you can share that your internet connection with other people around you, and they will be able to browse the internet too using the connection from your own PC, without having to pay anyone else. This is also secure as it is WPA2 Encryption passworded. Note that you can do this either for free or you charge anyone trying to use this – it’s up to you.

How to Connect Your Laptop to Other Wireless Computer or Devices to Browse the Internet

Now let us go straight to how you can make others connect to your PC and broswe as well. Follow the steps below:

1. First, we are going to need the Connectify software, click the button below to download Connectify.

3. After successful installation, your Connectify will be running and can be found on the taskbar.


4. Fill up the necessary fields. You can use password to restrict un-authorized access to your Wi-Fi Hotspot. You can also name the Internet and Hotspot name.

5. Then click Start Hotspot.

And you are done. As you can see from the last image, I have connected the Connectify software with my Multilinks AnyData Modem. I can now be sharing my Internet connection with any wireless device that has my password. You can then start to share your internet connection with friends, roommates, or clients.

Upgrading your MTN FASTLINK Modems

If you are using MTN Fastlink Modem to surf the Internet, MTN recommends that you update your F@stLink Data modem firmware to the latest available version to ensure that you always receive the best MTN Broadband user experience.

What is the difference between Firmware and Software?
Your F@stLink Data modem relies on two applications or programs to be able to connect to the MTN network. One application is installed on the modem itself and the other application installed on your computer that the card is used with. The Application that is installed on the modem is called Firmware and the application that is installed on your computer is called Software.

Why download the UI software:
This software is the latest version of software to upgrade your modem UI, which includes some of the features that are non-existent on other UI’s. Some of these features includes:
* The ability to load Prepaid airtime
* The ability to check airtime balance
* The ability to purchase MTN data and SMS bundles

How to check if you have latest version:
* Launch the modem UI (dashboard)
* Go to the “Help” option on the top menu and click on it
* This will then bring up a window displaying the version that you’re currently on. The version number would be represented in the following manner, MTN F@stLink 11.002.03.14.67
* From this number, the version number will be the second last two digits (highlighted in bold above) which will indicate what version you’re currently using.
* Should the version of your modem be below 14, then you will require an upgrade.
