EFFECTIVES LINK BUILDING TECHNIQUES

In the last couple of months practically everyone is talking about guest blogging, linkbuilding through infographics and other forms of linkbaits when giving advice on building quality links. Nothing against them, those are fantastic techniques that get really great results; it just looks like people have forgotten about other ways to build just as quality links. Even if you got really good at guest posting, you should consider getting other types of links for at least three reasons: first, to diversify the backlink profile of your website (it’s not natural to have 80 or 90% of the same type of backlinks); second, to get different traffic sources (your target audience is much wider than blog readers); and third, never ever rely on one technique only, you never know how Google will be treating it tomorrow.
So today we’re going to talk about less popular – but legitimate – ways to get good links. A bit of warning though – this post is probably not very useful for beginners.

1. Sites that already link to you

If someone has already found your website interesting and valuable enough to link to it, there’s a good chance that they will want to do it again, and it’s easier to establish contact with them. First consider the existing link: what anchor text is it using, and is it possible to tweak it a bit to better suit your needs (a short email with “Hey, I just saw that you’re linking to my post and I really appreciate it; I was wandering if you could change the anchor text to …” or something like that, should be enough). Then see if you have some other posts that the website in question could link to, or keep them in mind when you launch something new.

2. Links from trusted sites
Government (.gov) and educational (.edu) sites are generally the toughest to get editorial links from, because they usually have high standards or a high level of bureaucracy, and even more so when it comes to linking to commercial websites – but that’s what makes these links so valuable. The best approach is to get involved in some way: offer discounts to students or government employees, take part in research, be energy efficient, support green initiatives, organize fundraising or make donations if you can.

3. Links from news sites
News media – TV, newspapers, radio – mostly have online presence to complement their offline editions. To approach them, you have to have newsworthy content, and the tactic that works the best is to contact the editor or the author directly; also, you can subscribe to great HelpAReporter.com, service that connects you with journalists looking for story, or go with well written press releases and seek help from PR distribution sites like PRWeb.com or PRNewswire.com.
Combining points 2 and 3 by writing about something that will get you both .gov / .edu links and media coverage is relatively easy.

4. Links from jobs and business sites
If you have a job opening, advertise it on as many places as you can (but keep in mind that many recruitment sites charge a fee for listing a vacancy). There is also a large niche of websites that offer career and recruitment advice, and if you have a genuine career advice to offer, they are an easy target. Business sites, on the other hand, often organize conferences and summits, and link to the attendees in order to promote the events. Be the attendee, or take it a step further and offer to help in organizing the event – and get some links in return.
Pro tip: whenever you attend an event of any kind, write a post about it and include a link to it in a thank you email you will send to the people who organize it – they will probably publish some sort of report after the event has taken place, and your post will have good chance to be included in it.
Good links that will last are rarely obtained without effort and a bit of creativity, and if you haven’t yet, it’s time to start networking and reaching out to people. It can provide you with linkbuilding opportunities you haven’t thought of, and thinking outside the box and doing what your competitors don’t will make it difficult for them to copy your backlinks.
